Eduardo López Moreno, Ph.D.

Head, Research and Capacity Development

Eduardo López Moreno is the Director of Research and Capacity Development at UN-Habitat. He has over 20 years of academic and professional experience in housing and urban development policies, institutional analysis and urban poverty alleviation issues. He has an extensive number of publications: five books on topics related to social housing, land policies and urban development. Dr. López Moreno is the Task Manager and principal author of UN-Habitat State of World Cities Report, the flagship publication of the Agency.

Robert P. Ndugwa, Ph.D.

Head, Global Urban Observatory Unit

Robert P. Ndugwa is currently the Officer in charge of the Global Urban Observatory Unit in the Research and Capacity Development Branch at the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in Nairobi, Kenya. He is primarily responsible for the UN-Habitat’s global urban monitoring and reporting on SDGs and also doubles as the chief statistician for UN-Habitat.  Prior to joining UN-Habitat, Robert worked with UNICEF as head of Research, Evaluation and Statistics in Kenya Country Office; London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine-UK; University of Heidelberg-Germany; African Population and Health Research Center, Kenya, and Makerere University Kampala.  

Robert holds a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics.  His research interests include: slum estimations; city prosperity measurements ; urbanization and health systems dynamics; urban inequalities and marginalization; urban spatial analysis and mapping; mobile technologies for data collection in urban and remote areas; urban demographic surveillance systems; urbanization and adolescents transitions.  He has contributed to several book chapters and peer-review articles in Journals such as:  Journal of Urban Health; Lancet , International Journal of Epidemiology; Journal of Child Health; Malaria Journal; Studies in Family Planning; Bulletin of World Health Organization , etc.

Luis Herrera Favela

CPI Task Manager

Luis Herrera Favela is an Urban Planner and Architect with more than 10 years of experience in international cooperation and development. He was awarded PhD in Urban and Territorial Planning from University of Rome “La Sapienza”, and MSc in Urban Analysis from the National University of Mexico. Luis has been involved in researching Cultural Heritage as an enabler of urban development in Latin America. He has published several articles on this matter. Since 2013, he works at UN-Habitat, in the City Prosperity Initiative, committed to promoting the use of data as the basis for evidence-based policies. 

Regina Orvañanos Murguía

CPI Task Manager

Regina Orvañanos Murguía is the coordinator of the City Prosperity Initiative at UN-Habitat. She is an architect and MSc. in International Cooperation and Urban Development with work experience in Kenya, Switzerland, Venezuela and Mexico in the fields of global urban monitoring, inequality, spatial planning, sustainable urban mobility and public space rehabilitation. Previous to the UN-Habitat she has been engaged with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), as well as on non-profit organizations for the advocacy of policies for more sustainable cities.

Alejandra Perez Sandoval

Liaison Officer

Alejandra Perez Sandoval is a Liaison Officer for the City Prosperity Initiative with a BFA in Communications and a specizlization in Public Relations. Alejandra has been involved with digital markerting and advocacy & outreach with UN-Habitat, as well as event coordination and campaign support. Previous to UN-Habitat, she worked as an Account Manager and Event Coordinator for the Habitat III Conference exhibition in Quito, Ecuador and currenly focuses on partner engagement and project support for the CPI.

Antony Abilla

CPI Data Analyst/Statician

Antony Abilla is a statistician and Data analyst with the Global Urban Observatory Unit of the UN-Habitat. He is responsible for the computation and verification of CPI indicators data for the cities participating in the initiative as well as offering technical support with regards to the collection, compilation and computation of the indicators in the proper CPI methodology. He has a master’s in Economic Policy from the University of Nairobi and Bachelor’s degree from the same University.
