Travel Arrangements for Official Mission

Visas : All official travel is required to be undertaken with an official visa, except for countries where entry visas are exempted for travel on UN Laissez Passer.

Dear Colleagues,

Travel Arrangements for Official Mission

Visas
All official travel is required to be undertaken with an official visa, except for countries where entry visas are exempted for travel on UN Laissez Passer.

It is the travellers responsibility to seek guidance from UNON Visa Sub- Unit on visa requirements for  missions in advance.

Specific to the USA, all staff travelling to or transiting through the USA are required to obtain an official G4 visa, which is granted  free to UN officials.

Information about the G4 process and necessary forms are available at UNON's intranet: https://intranet.unon.org/content/visa

The US Government offers the ESTA Waiver Programme (currently in use for 38 countries) for personal travel for entitled holders of specific nationalities.  Requirements related to the same are subject to change and are at the discretion of the US Government.  Please note that the UN does not authorize use of ESTA for official missions to or through the USA.

Travel Unit has been notified of cases where staff are denied entry/transit under ESTA or to other parts of the world.  Please note that the full cost of travel arrangements related to denied entry are the personal liability of staff.

Check In
All official tickets indicate the requirement for staff to check in at least 3 hours prior to departure for international flights.

TSVU is aware that in many cities, especially Nairobi, traffic can be unpredictable and we urge staff to plan on at least 4 hours in advance for check in.

Where traveller are unable to arrive to the airport in good time, to avoid being personally charged for a "no-show" fee for the ticket,  staff are required to contact the official travel agency via the emergency telephone numbers indicated on the ticket, before check in closes.

Kind regards,

Ms. Katarzyna Loj-Moons
