Update on the on-going COVID vaccination drive at JMS
We would like to update on the on-going COVID vaccination roll-out at the UNON JMS. The first phase of the drive was courtesy of the government of Kenya led effort and run between 23rd Mar and 27th Apr 2021. The 2nd phase has been courtesy of the UN-led effort and run between 24th May and 23rd June 2021. We are now transitioning to a 3rd phase that will be courtesy of GOK led effort.
The UN led COVID vaccination effort:
The 2nd phase of the JMS vaccination drive has just concluded. During this phase, vaccines were provided by the UN System-Led vaccination effort. We are very grateful to all colleagues for their patience and cooperation with all the instructions and guidelines and for presenting themselves in time when they received invites and booking confirmations from the platform being used, that is Everbridge. The exercise has been very successful in efficient utilization of all the vaccine doses that were allocated to UN in Kenya.
Following expansion of the program reach, JMS managed to administer first doses to 2,210 persons, and 2nd doses to 1,350 persons for a total of 3,560. To date, a total of 6,884 doses have been administered at JMS from the combined UN led and GOK efforts. As per estimates about 25% of our population have now received at least 1 dose of vaccine, and 6.75% have been fully vaccinated with 2 doses. More vaccine shipments are expected from the UN led mechanism and that will help us to further expand the program as we work towards our objective to eventually vaccinate everyone. Information will be provided as it becomes available.
Government of Kenya led COVID vaccination effort:
The government of Kenya has confirmed availability of 2nd doses for those who received their first doses at UNON JMS following the earlier exercise in March/ April this year. We are therefore shortly going to start inviting the concerned persons, including those who had registered and were not invited. The invitations will be sent out from the email address firstname.lastname@example.org and the administration will be at the JMS vaccination site at the UN compound in Gigiri.
For a well-managed and efficient exercise, we urge you to look out for messages and broadcasts from JMS. When you receive an invite with a specific booking time, we encourage you to promptly honor as per the schedule. Vaccination timings are 10am to 3pm on Mondays, 9am to 3pm between Tues to Thurs, and 9am to 1pm on Fridays.
Both the UN-led and the GOK exercises currently utilize the Astra Zeneca COVISHIELD vaccine manufactured by Serum Institute India. This vaccine is effective in preventing 73% infection, and 100% severe disease or death outcome after the 2 doses. Side effects of concern are rare, and according to WHO, the benefits far outweigh the risk.
If you would like to benefit from the GOK led exercise at JMS, and you had not registered for it earlier in March/ April, you can still register by clicking the link to complete the UNON COVID19 vaccination booking Form. You do not need to register if you had done so earlier as your details remain available to us.
